The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team opened its 2015 spring season over the weekend, finishing 15th at the two-day, 19-team Illinois Wesleyan Spring Fling at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill.

The Warhawks totaled 677 strokes (334-343), just three shy of North Central (Ill.), which placed 14th. Washington-St. Louis won the tournament with a score of 605.

Sammie Leibham (Sheboygan/North) and sophomore
Kayla Asleson (Kenosha/Tremper) led UW-Whitewater, each finishing in the top half of the 104-player field. Leibham tallied a 164 (81-83) to tie for 45th overall, while Asleson improved by five strokes in the second round for a 165 (85-80), good for a tie for 51st.

Kate Winkler (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) tied for 70th with a score of 172 (83-89), while sophomore
Stephanie Stair (Milton, Wis./Milton) tied for 84th after carding a 177 (85-92).

Sarah Bregant (Sussex/Hamilton) rounded out Warhawks scoring with a 187 (96-91), good for 97th place.

UW-Whitewater returns to action Friday and Saturday as it hosts the UW-Whitewater Spring Fling. Tournament play is set to begin Friday at 1 p.m. at Delbrook Golf Course in Delavan.
