Warhawks Third After First Day at UW-Oshkosh

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team stands third out of eight teams after one day at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational at Oshkosh Country Club.
 
The Warhawks fired a 353 on the opening day of competition and are just nine shots back of UW-Oshkosh, which leads the tournament. Viterbo University is in second at 346.
 
Freshman Stephanie Stair (Milton, Wis./Milton) led UW-Whitewater with an 86, only four strokes behind UW-Oshkosh's McKenzie Paul for the lead and good for a tie for fourth place out of 45 players. Junior Sammie Leibham (Sheboygan/North) is alone in eighth place and five shots shy of the lead after carding a first-round 87.
 
Senior Sarah Bregant (Sussex/Hamilton) is tied for ninth after posting a score of 88. Classmate Claudia Rhein (Racine/Prairie) tallied an opening-round 92 and stands tied for 14th.
 
Sophomore Kayla Asleson (Kenosha/Tremper) totaled 97 strokes in the first round, good for a 20th-place standing.
 
UW-Whitewater's "B" team is currently tied for fourth with a score of 400. Senior Vivian Shoemaker (San Jacinto, CA/San Jacinto) led the "B" team with a 94 and is 17th on the leaderboard.
 
Senior Kate Winkler (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) and sophomore Hannah Taylor (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard South) are three shots apart after shooting 99 and 102, respectively. Winkler is tied for 21st, while Taylor is tied for 26th. Sophomore Katie Kelly (Geneva, IL/Geneva) is tied for 31st after carding a 105.
 
Freshman Hayley Jefferson (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) rounded out "B" team scorers with a 118.
 
The second and final round begins Sunday at 8:30 a.m.
