The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team is in fourth place out of 14 teams after the first day of the Mad Dawg Invite at Stevens Point Country Club in Stevens Point, Wis.

The Warhawks totaled 342 strokes, just 10 shy of UW-Stout, the leader after one round. UW-Whitewater's "B" team is also in contention, posting a score of 356 to stand fifth after the first day.

Kayla Asleson (Kenosha/Tremper), who recorded the second-lowest round of her career at last week's UW-Whitewater Fall Classic, carded a team-best 84 and is tied for seventh out of 78 players. Senior
Claudia Rhein (Racine/Prairie) finished the round one stroke behind Asleson with an 85, tied for 11th overall.

Sammie Leibham (Sheboygan/North) and sophomore
Stephanie Stair (Milton, Wis./Milton) finished just behind in the next pack of Warhawks. Leibham registered an 86, while Stair totaled an 87 to stand tied for 17th and tied for 20th, respectively.

Sarah Bregant (Sussex/Hamilton) rounded out UW-Whitewater's lineup with a 91, good for a tie for 33rd.

Jess Gruber (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) led the "B" team with a career-low 84 and is tied with Asleson for seventh in the standings.

Hannah Taylor (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard South) and senior
Kate Winkler (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) also wrapped up the day in the top 30 for the "B" team. Taylor fired an 88 and is tied for 22nd, while Winkler is tied for 29th with a 90.

Hayley Jefferson (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) registered a 94 and is tied for 45th, while senior
Vivian Shoemaker (San Jacinto, CA/San Jacinto) is alone in 50th with a first-round 96.
