DELAVAN, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater golf team moved one spot up in the second and final round Saturday to finish sixth of 13 teams in the UW-Whitewater Fall Classic at Delbrook Golf Club.

The Warhawks tied for the second-lowest round of the day with a 325 to finish the tournament at 670 (345-325), just a stroke shy of fifth-place Trine (Ind.) and only 12 strokes away from second place. Hope (Mich.) carded a 645 (322-323) to take the team title.

Senior
Claudia Rhein (Racine/Prairie) finished second in the 80-player field to lead UW-Whitewater. Rhein followed up a first-round 81 with a season-low 77 to finish with 158 strokes, just three shy of tournament medalist Morgan Leep of Hope. She was named to the All-Tournament team by virtue of her runner-up performance.

Sophomore
Kayla Asleson (Kenosha/Tremper) improved in the second round by 12 strokes from her opening round tally, posting a 170 (91-79) to tie for 22nd overall. Sophomore
Stephanie Stair (Milton, Wis./Milton) was just one behind Asleson with a 171 (88-83), good for a tie for 25th.

Sammie Leibham (Sheboygan/North) totaled a 173 (87-86) to tie for 30th, while classmate
Sarah Bregant (Sussex/Hamilton) recorded a 176 (89-87) to place 37th.

Vivian Shoemaker (San Jacinto, CA/San Jacinto) carded a 178 (87-91) to finish tied for 38th and lead the Warhawks' "B" team, which finished 10th with a team score of 746 (374-372).

Kate Winkler (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) posted a 186 (96-90) to tie for 47th, while sophomore
Hannah Taylor (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard South) tied for 54th with a 190 (92-98). Junior
Taylor Genter (Sun Prairie/Sun Prairie) improved by 10 strokes on the second day to fire a 196 (103-93).

Hayley Jefferson (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North),
Jess Gruber (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls),
Callie Edwards (Verona, Wis./Verona Area),
Liz Semmann (Jackson, Wis.) and
Katie Melanouris (Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond) all competed as individuals for UW-Whitewater. Jefferson finished 49th with a 187 (94-93), while Gruber made the largest score jump on the team with an 87 Saturday for a 188 (101-87), good for a tie for 50th.

Edwards (102-95=197), Semmann (110-106=216) and Melanouris (127-116=243) placed 62nd, tied for 72nd and 76th, respectively, for the Warhawks.

UW-Whitewater heads to Stevens Point Country Club next Saturday and Sunday for the two-round UW-Stevens Point Invite, the final tune-up prior to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship, which begins Oct. 3.
