The Warhawks totaled a first-round 345 and are within four strokes of sixth-place UW-Oshkosh. Hope (Mich.) leads the field with a 322.
Senior
Claudia Rhein (Racine/Prairie) fired a season-best 81 and is tied for eighth in the 80-player field.
Junior
Sammie Leibham (Sheboygan/North) shot an 87 and is tied for 26th, while freshman
Stephanie Stair (Milton, Wis./Milton) is one shot behind and tied for 30th with an 88. Senior
Sarah Bregant (Sussex/Hamilton) carded a first-round 89 and is tied for 34th.
Sophomore
Kayla Asleson (Kenosha/Tremper) totaled a 91 and leads the second half of the field in 41st.
UW-Whitewater's "B" team recorded a score of 374 and is ninth following the first day. Senior
Vivian Shoemaker (San Jacinto, CA/San Jacinto) posted an 87 to lead the squad and is tied for 26th.
Sophomore
Hannah Taylor (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard South) is tied for 42nd after registering a 92, while senior
Kate Winkler (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) is tied for 54th following a first-round 96.
Sophomore
Katie Kelly (Geneva, IL/Geneva) shot a 99 to end the day tied for 60th, and junior
Taylor Genter (Sun Prairie/Sun Prairie) is alone in 72nd after tallying a score of 103.
Five players competed as individuals for the Warhawks, including freshman
Hayley Jefferson (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North), who led the bunch with a 94 to conclude the day in a tie for 47th.
Other finishers included freshmen
Jess Gruber (Menomonee Falls, Wis./Menomonee Falls) with a 101 (T-67th),
Callie Edwards (Verona, Wis./Verona Area) with a 102 (T-70th),
Liz Semmann (Jackson, Wis.) with a 110 (T-75th) and
Katie Melanouris (Spring Grove, Ill./Richmond) with a 127 (80th).
Play continues with the second round tomorrow at 9 a.m.
