Tournament on the Border Leaderboard

The UW-Whitewater women's golf team finished second in the 15-team field at the Tournament on the Border hosted by Carthage College at Bristol Oaks Country Club Saturday.

After posting a 322 Friday, the Warhawks carded a 329 for a two-day total of 651 to finish second to host Carthage by 11 strokes. 

Junior Sammie Leibham (Sheboygan/North) was the top Warhawk finisher in fourth place in a 79-player field with a total of 156. Teammate Stephanie Stair (Milton, Wis./Milton), a freshman, finished right behind Leibham tied for fifth after shooting 81 Saturday for a total of 159. 

Sophomore Kayla Asleson (Kenosha/Tremper) and senior Claudia Rhein (Racine/Prairie) tied for 15th with a 168. Vivian Shoemaker (San Jacinto, CA/San Jacinto) finished tied for 51st with a 191. 

The UW-Whitewater "B" squad finished tenth with a total of 715 led by senior Sarah Bregant (Sussex/Hamilton) who posted a 173. Sophomore Hannah Taylor (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard South) added a 174 to finish tied for 30th. Senior Kate Winkler (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) (179) tied for 39th, freshman Hayley Jefferson (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) (195) finished 58th and sophomore Katie Kelly (Geneva, IL/Geneva) (197) placed 60th to round out the "B" team. 

The Warhawks will head to Oshkosh, Wisconsin for the UW-Oshkosh Invitational Saturday-Sunday, September 6-7 held at the Oshkosh Country Club.

The Warhawks carded a 322 as a team on the opening day of the season and are just one stroke behind tournament host Carthage.
 
Junior Sammie Leibham (Sheboygan/North) and freshman Stephanie Stair (Milton, Wis./Milton) fired identical scores of 78 and are currently tied for third in the 79-player field. Senior Claudia Rhein (Racine/Prairie) tallied an 82 and stands tied for 12th after her first round as a Warhawk.
 
Sophomore Kayla Asleson (Kenosha/Tremper) posted an 84 and is tied for 17th, while senior Vivian Shoemaker (San Jacinto, CA/San Jacinto) ranks 50th after a first-round 96.
 
Sophomore Hannah Taylor (Glen Ellyn, IL/Glenbard South) recorded an 81 and is 11th to lead the UW-Whitewater "B" team, which stands seventh. Senior Sarah Bregant (Sussex/Hamilton) was close behind with an 84 and is currently tied for 17th.
 
Senior Kate Winkler (Kewaskum/Kewaskum) contributed with an 85 to stand tied for 21st. Sophomore Katie Kelly (Geneva, IL/Geneva) and freshman Haley Jefferson round out the "B" team scorers with a 92 and a 98, respectively. Kelly is tied for 45th, while Jefferson is tied for 53rd.
