Box Score 2 WHITEWATER, Wis. - The Warhawk softball team topped UW-Stevens Point in shutout fashion Wednesday afternoon. UW-W opened with a 10-0 win in five innings and defeated the Pointers 5-0 in the second game of the twinbill. The Warhawks improve to 16-3 this season and 3-1 in the WIAC. UW-SP falls to 10-15 overall and 1-7 in league play.
Whitewater scattered nine hits in the first game bolstered by six run bottom of the third that included a pair of three-run homers.
Amy Ricci (Gurnee, IL/Warren Township) tagged the first homerun, the first of her collegiate career, with two out to right field. Three batters later,
Kelynn Sporer (Chilton/Chilton) blasted one over the center field fence, her first for the season.
The Warhawks continued to roll in the bottom of the fourth adding four more to their total.
Samie Seamon (Antioch, IL/Antioch) kept the long ball alive with a lead-off homerun to right field.
Paige Evangelista (Wheaton, IL/North) and Sporer drove in two more while a Pointer error proved costly allowing another UW-W run to cross the plate.
Sporer got it done on both sides of the ball Wednesday. She led UW-W at the plate going 2-for-2 in the batter's box with four RBI and a walk. The righthander also picked up the win on the mound pitching allowing just two hits in five innings while striking out one.
The Warhawks scored one run in the bottom of the first and added another in the bottom of the second.
Mimi Ramirez (Chicago, IL/Trinity) showcased her speed scoring on a passed ball and
Laura Eichenold (Elmwood Park, IL/Trinity) drove in the second run with a double to left center.
Whitewater's big inning came in the bottom of the fifth. Ramirez opened the inning with an infield single. A throwing error on
Kelly McGrail (Tinley Park, IL/V.J. Andrew)'s sacrifice bunt put both runners in scoring position.
Morgan Krisch (Plainfield, IL/Central) followed with a two RBI single through the right side and was replaced on the base paths by
Courtney Smith (St. Charles, IL/North). Smith stole second and came around to score on Evangelista's single up the middle for the final margin, 5-0.
Ramirez went 2-for-4 at the plate adding two runs scored.
Bekka Houda (Lisle, IL/Lisle) improved to 7-2 this season with the complete game win. The righty struck out seven and walked two in seven innings of work.
The Warhawks will head to La Crosse for more doubleheader action Thursday. The first pitch is scheduled for 3:00 pm.
