Big Bats Power Warhawks Over Dubuque

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WHITEWATER, Wis. - Morgan Krisch (Plainfield, IL/Central) went 4-for-5 with four runs scored, three RBI, two walks and two homeruns to lead UW-W to two wins Monday. The Warhawks topped Dubuque 10-6 and followed with a 9-0, five inning rout of the Spartans in the nightcap. Whitewater posted 19 runs on 23 hits, including six for extra bases, in the doubleheader.

The Warhawks used a big third inning to seal the win in game one. Dubuque got on the board right away with a two-run homer in the top of the first. UW-W answered with single runs in the bottom of the first and second to knot the game 2-2. The Spartans took the lead in the top of the third with another run but then the Warhawk bats caught fire.

Krisch opened the inning with a solo blast over the fence in left center to tie the game 3-3. Laura Eichenold (Elmwood Park, IL/Trinity) posted a one-out double to center field and advanced to third on a wild pitch. With two outs, Paige Evangelista (Wheaton, IL/North) homered to left center scoring two. Chelsey Schobert (Belmont/Belmont) singled through the right side in the next at bat and Samie Seamon (Antioch, IL/Antioch) powered a ball over the right center field fence for the team's third homer of the inning. Mimi Ramirez (Chicago, IL/Trinity) kept the inning going with an infield single and stole second. Kelly McGrail (Tinley Park, IL/V.J. Andrew) singled up the middle to score Ramirez from second to give UW-W an 8-3 lead after three innings.

The Spartans threatened with three runs in the top of the fourth to pull within two, 8-6 but UW-W added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth for the final margin.

Whitewater rattled off 14 hits in the game led by Krisch's 3-for-4 performance at the plate. Ramirez, Eichenold, Evangelista and Seamon each posted multiple hits in the game for the Warhawks.

Kelynn Sporer (Chilton/Chilton) improved to 7-1 with the win. The righty did not allow a hit while striking out two in three innings of relief.

With all of the momentum in the Whitewater dugout, the Warhawk offense continued to roll in game two. A three-run first inning was bolstered by three singles and four walks. UW-W made it 4-0 with a single run in the bottom of the second.

Once again, the third inning was paramount for Whitewater. Haley Morelli (Mundelein, IL/Mundelein) drew a pinch hit walk to lead off the inning for the Warhawks and was replaced on the base paths by Courtney Smith (St. Charles, IL/North). Evangelista singled through the left side to put two runners on. Seamon singled up the middle with one out two score Smith. Ramirez put the pressure on the defense with another infield hit and a throwing error allowed two Warhawks to touch home and Ramirez to advance all the way to third. McGrail's groundout brought in Ramirez to give UW-W their fifth run of the inning and a 9-0 lead.

Ramirez went 2-for-3 in the batter's box with a run scored and an RBI to lead UW-W in the nightcap.

Freshman righthander Stephanie Waller (Oak Lawn, IL/Richards) threw a complete game (5.0 innings) one-hitter striking out five while walking one in her first collegiate win on the mound.

The Warhawks will host UW-Stevens Point Wednesday for a doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
