Box Score 2 BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The UW-Whitewater softball team dropped a doubleheader to #17 Illinois Wesleyan Wednesday afternoon on the road to fall to 20-7 this season. The Warhawks fell in the opener 3-0 and 10-2 (five innings) in the nightcap.
IWU's lefty hurler Molly McCready held the UW-W hitters at bay allowing just three hits in the first game to improve to 13-2 this season.
The Titans scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning off of two hits and an error. Illinois Wesleyan added an insurance run in the bottom of the third.
Amy Ricci (Gurnee, IL/Warren Township) led UW-W at the plate with two of the teams three hits.
Kelynn Sporer (Chilton/Chilton) registered the complete game loss to fall to 8-3 this season.
The Warhawks bounced back in game two to take an early 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Mimi Ramirez (Chicago, IL/Trinity) opened the inning reaching on a Titan error.
Kelly McGrail (Tinley Park, IL/V.J. Andrew) followed with a push bunt for a single and a fielder's choice in the next at bat left two runners on with one out. A wild pitch allowed both runners to advance into scoring position and Ricci's single brought in two.
Illinois Wesleyan put together a big second inning on offense scoring five runs off of four hits including two homeruns. IWU added two runs in the fourth and a three-run bottom of the five ended the game early with the score 10-2.
Ricci went 2-for-3 from the plate with two RBI in the game to lead Whitewater.
Bekka Houda (Lisle, IL/Lisle) moves to 9-4 with the loss.
The Warhawks will host UW-River Falls Friday for a doubleheader beginning at 3 pm. UW-W will celebrate the seniors and alumni during the twinbill.
