Box Score 1 WHITEWATER, Wis. - The Warhawk softball team topped Carroll 3-2 in the home opener Tuesday afternoon. Originally scheduled as a doubleheader, the nightcap was called due to darkness after the third inning with UW-W up 16-2. Whitewater is 11-2 this season and the Pioneers fall to 2-15.

The Warhawks got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the second. Morgan Krisch (Plainfield, IL/Central) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and advanced to third on two groundouts. Samie Seamon (Antioch, IL/Antioch) notched a single up the middle for the RBI scoring Krisch to give UW-W a 1-0 lead. 

Carroll came back in the top of the third with two runs to take the lead. The Pioneers scored two runs off of two hits in the inning.

Whitewater evened the score in their half of the third after Amy Ricci (Gurnee, IL/Warren Township) led off with a single up the middle. Deven DuCharme (Hudson/Hudson) came in to pinch run for Ricci at first and advanced to second on Krisch's one out single up the middle. Paige Evangelista (Wheaton, IL/North) walked to load the bases and Chelsey Schobert (Belmont/Belmont) recorded the RBI on a sacrifice fly to left field. 

The Warhawks tallied their third run in the bottom of the fourth. Kelly McGrail (Tinley Park, IL/V.J. Andrew) drew a walk with one out then stole second with two outs. Ricci came up big with a single up the middle to score the winning run.

UW-W's defense got out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the seventh. The Pioneers put three runners on with just one out but Whitewater stranded them all to hold on for the win.

Ricci and McGrail each posted two hits in the game to lead Whitewater offensively. 

Righthander Bekka Houda (Lisle, IL/Lisle) picked up the win on the mound with five strikeouts and four walks in 6.1 innings pitched to improve to 6-2 this season. Kelynn Sporer (Chilton/Chilton) came in with the bases loaded in the seventh to help the Warhawks out of the jam and record the save, her second of the season.

UW-W will head to La Crosse for a doubleheader Thursday beginning at 3:00 pm against the Eagles.
