Warhawks Split to Move to 6-2

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. - The Warhawk softball team split a pair of games Tuesday in the NTC Spring Games in Clermont. Junior Kelynn Sporer (Chilton/Chilton) went 2-3 from the plate with a double, an RBI and a run scored while picking up her fourth win of the season on the mound to lead UW-W over Buena Vista in the first game. UW-W fell to St. Thomas 14-3 in the nightcap.

Sporer tossed six innings allowing three hits while striking out five and walking two to improve to 4-0 this season. The righthander had plenty of support offensively with seven Warhawks combining for eight hits in addition to Sporer's two.

Whitewater opened the scoring in the top of the second with two outs. Chelsey Schobert (Belmont/Belmont) singled through the left side followed by a Sporer single. An error during the play in the outfield allowed Schobert to come all the way around to score. Samie Seamon (Antioch, IL/Antioch) made it back-to-back-to-back singles with a shot to right field that scored Sporer. That was all the Warhawks would need in the game.

UW-W added four runs in the top of the third and one in the top of the fifth. BVU scored their sole run of the game in the bottom of the fifth.

In game two, the Tommies blasted out the gate scoring 10 runs in the top of the first. UW-W had some opportunities but could not overcome the deficit in the loss. The Warhawks posted 13 hits in the game but only drove in three runs.

Mimi Ramirez (Chicago, IL/Trinity), Laura Eichenold (Elmwood Park, IL/Trinity) and Samie Seamon (Antioch, IL/Antioch) each went 3-3 from the plate while Paige Evangelista (Wheaton, IL/North) added a 2-3 performance in the batter's box.

Bekka Houda (Lisle, IL/Lisle) picked up the loss on the mound for UW-W to fall to 2-2 this season.

UW-W is scheduled to play Carthage and Wellesley at 9:00 and 1:00 respectively.
