Box Score

If you like seeing a dramatic finish all you had to do was come to the UW-Whitewater men's soccer game against Augustana Friday night at Fiskum Field in Whitewater. The Warhawks scored in the last 90 seconds of double overtime to win 2-1 and remain undefeated with a record of 8-0-0. The Vikings fall to 3-3-1 with the loss.

Riley Monahan found Michael Salm (Grafton, Wis. /Grafton) with a through ball and Salm beat the Viking goalkeeper to give the Warhawks a 1-0 lead just over eight minutes into the game. UW-W continued to pepper Augustana with shots but was unable to add an insurance goal. The Warhawks outshot the Vikings 16-6 in regulation.

With time ticking down Viking defender Erik Gustafson crossed the ball to Grant Halter who punched it past the Warhawk defense to tie the game with only sixteen seconds remaining.

In the first overtime each team shot the ball one time and Augustana put theirs on net, but Josh Rohde (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) made his only save of the night to preserve the tie.

In overtime number two the teams traded shots before the Warhawks scored what they thought was the game winning goal with less than two and a half minutes remaining, but the linesman called UW-W offsides and the goal didn't count. One minute and thirteen seconds later the Warhawks put another ball in the back of the net, only this one counted. Kody Mjelde (Baraboo, Wis./Baraboo) snuck a cross through the box to Ryan Reid (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) who netted the game winner with 69 seconds left on the clock.

This was the third overtime win for UW-W this season and the fourth time they've won a game in the final minutes.

Josh Rohde (Waukesha, Wis./Waukesha West) moves to 8-0-0 as goalkeeper this season and boasts a .38 goals against average. Rohde and the Warhawk defense have only allowed three goals all year.

The 8-0-0 start is the best in school history for the men's soccer team. In 2005 UW-W opened up the season by winning their first game, tying their second, and then rattling off 12 straight before finishing the year 14-3-1.

UW-W, ranked 20th in the nation by two polls, will travel to Kenosha on Sunday to face-off against Carthage in a match at 7:00 pm.
