Warhawks Remain Undefeated with Two Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Three homeruns lead to two wins for the Warhawk softball team Saturday. A three run blast off the bat of Emily Epifanio (Park Ridge, IL/Maine South) in the first game led to a 5-1 rout of St. Norbert. In the nightcap, Joanne Jablonski (Palatine, IL/Palatine) tagged a solo shot in the fifth and Samie Seamon (Antioch, IL/Antioch) followed with a three-run homer in the sixth to top the Green Knights 4-2.

The first inning was all UW-W would need in the first game. Epifanio's three run line drive homerun over center field put the first runs on the board.

St. Norbert scored a run in the top of the third but the Warhawks fired back in their half of the inning with two more. Morgan Krisch (Plainfield, IL/Central) led off the Whitewater half of the third with a single through the left side. Epifanio was walked and pinch run for by Courtney Smith (St. Charles, IL/North). Seamon followed with a bunt single to load the bases and two RBI groundouts followed in the next at bats to add to tallies to UW-W's total. That would end the scoring in the game with the final 5-1 in favor of the Warhawks.

Kelly McGrail (Tinley Park, IL/V.J. Andrew) was perfect in the batter's box going 3x3 in the game. Amanda Mertes (Des Plaines, IL/Elk Grove) and Seamon added multiple hits with two apiece. Epifanio was 1x1 with the homerun, three RBI's and was walked twice.

Senior right hander Katie Boyle (Greendale/Thomas More) picked up her eighth win of the season striking out five and walking one in six innings on the mound.

The Green Knights had their offense going right away in game two with a lead-off double that led to a run in the top of the first. St. Norbert added another run in the top of the fourth using two hits combined with a sacrifice bunt to take a 2-0 lead.

Jablonski woke up the bats for the Warhawks in the bottom of the fifth with a homer to center that cut the lead in half.

The UW-W defense held SNC in the top of the six and got right back to it on offense. Mimi Ramirez (Chicago, IL/Trinity) led off the inning with a bunt single and advanced to second with the help of a Knight error. Krisch advanced Ramirez to third with a sacrifice bunt and Epifanio drew a walk to put another runner on with Seamon headed to the plate. The junior outfielder was clutch for the Warhawks belting a three-run shot to center to give UW-W the lead, 4-2.

Once again the Whitewater defense held strong as UW-W remains unbeaten, 16-0 this season.

Seamon and Jablonski combined to go 4x5 from the plate with four RBIs and two run scored in the game to lead the Warhawks.

Sophomore righty Bekka Houda (Lisle, IL/Lisle) went the distance to pick up win number eight this season. She struck out three and walked one while allowing five hits in the game.

UW-W will host the University of Chicago Sunday for a doubleheader beginning at 1:00.
