Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 The UW-Whitewater softball team, ranked twelfth in the most recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll, used explosive offense and stifling defense to pick up two more wins in Clermont, Florida Tuesday. The Warhawks opened the day with a 6-0 win over MIT and followed with a 10-0 rout of Southern Maine.
MIT Recap
Junior right hander
Katie Boyle (Greendale/Thomas More) pitched five hitless innings and allowed just two MIT baserunners off of two base hits in the game. UW-W's defense added support stranding the runners at second and third. Boyle went the distance on the mound pitching seven complete with two strikeouts and no walks.
The Warhawk offense scored six runs on seven hits, all seven by different UW-W batters, in the game. A five-run second inning provided all the offense the Warhawks would need to win the game but Whitewater kept the bats alive adding a run in the bottom of the fourth leading to the final score, 6-0.
Amanda Mertes (Des Plaines, IL/Elk Grove),
AJ Grigsby (Orland Park, IL/Carl Sandburg) and
Morgan Krisch (Plainfield, IL/Central) each went 1x1 from the plate with Mertes and Grigsby combining for two runs scored. Krisch added a double and RBI.
Shauna Binsfeld (Cedarburg/Grafton) and
Laura Eichenold (Elmwood Park, IL/Trinity) each posted doubles in the game.
Southern Maine Recap
Bettering the offensive output from the first game, the Warhawk batters and baserunners scored 10 runs off of 10 hits, including four doubles, in the second game of the day.
Although the scoreboard showed 0-0 after three complete innings, UW-W got the offense going with two runs in the top of the fourth. Whitewater added four more runs in both the top of the fifth and top of the seventh.
Sophomore Krisch was a perfect 3x3 from the plate with a double, her second of the day, a run scored and an RBI. Freshman
Kiersten Tinkoff (Lake Barrington, IL/Barrington) was 2x4 from the batter's box with a double and an RBI.
Bekka Houda (Lisle, IL/Lisle) got the start on the mound for UW-W. Houda allowed three hits in four complete innings pitched and registered four strikeouts.
Amy Christopher (Lafayette, CO/Holy Family) came in for relief and held Southern Maine hitless in three innings while recording four strikeouts.
