Box Score 2 The twelfth ranked Warhawk softball team topped Thomas College 9-0 in five innings and fell to seventh ranked DePauw University 3-1 in Clermont, Florida Sunday.

The UW-Whitewater softball team went just five innings with Thomas College (ME) Sunday morning before run-rule finalized the game with the Warhawks recording their fifth win of the season, 9-0.
After a scoreless first inning, UW-W got the bats going in the bottom of the second. Whitewater used four hits, a Thomas error and a wild pitch to score five runs and take the early 5-0 lead.
Two more runs bolstered by a
Kelly McGrail (Tinley Park, IL/V.J. Andrew) double to left center to lead off the bottom of the fourth made the score 7-0 in favor of UW-W.
Shauna Binsfeld (Cedarburg/Grafton) doubled over the center fielder to start the bottom of the fifth and freshman
Deven DuCharme (Hudson/Hudson) followed with a homerun over left center, the first of her collegiate career, to make te Warhawk lead 9-0 and finish the game by the run rule.
Whitewater posted nine runs on 11 hits in the 4.5 innings played.
Amanda Mertes (Des Plaines, IL/Elk Grove) and
Laura Eichenold (Elmwood Park, IL/Trinity) each went 2x2 from the plate. Mertes added two stolen bases. Seven other Warhawks each posted hits in the game.
Junior righty
Amy Christopher (Lafayette, CO/Holy Family) shutout her second opponent of the spring trip. She allowed just three hits in four innings pitched while striking out eight to improve to 2-0 this season.
DePauw Recap
DePauw posted a run in the bottom of the first to take an early lead on a homerun that hit the foul pole (which is still in play) down the left field line.
Tough defense stranded runners on base and kept any from crossing the plate through the second and third innings.
UW-W came back to tie the game in the top of the fourth. Epifanio singled with one out to get things going and was moved to second on a
Sarah Fisher (Greenfield/Greenfield) single.
Paige Evangelista (Wheaton, IL/North) singled to right center to score Epifanio from second and tie the game 1-1.
DePauw came back in the bottom of the sixth with two more runs after two walks and a double put the game out of reach with DePauw handing Whitewater its first loss of the season, 3-1.
Epifanio recorded two of the six Warhawk hits in the game going 2x3 from the plate with a run scored.
Bekka Houda (Lisle, IL/Lisle) went the distance on the mound allowing five hits while striking out four and walking two in six innings pitched. Houda is 2-1 this season.
The Warhawks are 5-1 in 2012 after three days of games in Clermont.
Whitewater will continue play Tuesday, March 27 in Clermont with games against MIT and Southern Maine at 9:00 and 11:00 respectively.
