Wrestling Finishes Second in Muskie Invitational

UW-Whitewater wrestling, ranked fifth in the D3wrestle.com preseason poll, finished second with four weight class champions in the six team Muskie Invitational hosted by Lakeland College in Howards Grove, Wisconsin Saturday.

UW-Stevens Point finished first with 216.5 points, followed by UW-W at 162, UW-Oshkosh 110.5, Lakeland College 72, Milwaukee School of Engineering 61, and Carroll University rounded out the tournament with 52 points. 

Corey Meyer (Cary, IL/Cary-Grove), wrestling in the 133 pound weight class, finished first with a record of 3-0. Meyer pinned Nick Miceli of MSOE in 6:59 following a bye the first round. Meyer also defeated Dave Rosenan of Oshkosh 7-3 and Austin Binish 17-8 of MSOE in the title match. 

Wrestling in the 141 weight class, Matt Adcock (Bloomingdale, IL/Lake Park) finished in second with a 3-1 record. Adcock lost in the title match to Jordan Kust of UW-Stevens Point.

Tom Greszewski finished in first at 149 pounds. Defeating Jacob Maechtle from Lakeland College 17-1 (TF). Greszewski also topped Mason McMullen of UW-Oshkosh 5-2, and won the tournament over Elroy Perkin (Greenfield/Whitnall) 3-0.

Kegan Arthur (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey) came in third place in the 157 weight class with a 3-1 record. Adam Zeh (Lombard, IL/Glenbard East) also came in third in the 165 weight class, 3-1, after losing his first match and then winning the next three. 

Ryan Aprahamian (Mukwonago/Mukwonago) came in second in the 174 weight class, going 2-1. Aprahamian lost to Ryan Conat of UW-Stevens Point 6-3 in his championship.

In the 184 weight class Andrew Pettit (Hoffman Estates, IL/Hoffman Estates) came in first with a 3-0 record. Pettit pinned Patrick Miller from Oshkosh in 6:00, also defeating Nick Lecher UW-Stevens Point 6-2 and topping Andy Borchandt from UW-Stevens Point 6-3.

Rounding out the first place finishes, Shane Seifert came out on top of the 197 weight class with two wins after earning a bye. Seifert defeated Dustin Wozniak from UW-Stevens Point and in the championship match pinned Dwayne Hale from Carthage in 0:16.

Whitewater wrestling will head to Platteville on November 8 in a conference match scheduled to start at 7:00.  Warhawks first home meet will be January 25 in a conference match against UW-Eau Claire.
