Fredrickson, Sarbacker, Schmidt Unbeaten at North South Duals

Jake Fredrickson made a successful season debut with a perfect 4-0 mark at the North South Duals hosted by Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania Saturday.  He was joined by teammates Corey Schmidt (Homewood, IL/Homewood Flossmoor), also 4-0, and Cade Sarbacker (Mineral Point/Iowa-Grant), 3-0, in going through the duals without a loss.  The Warhawks went 3-1 as a team in their four matches for the day.

North South Duals Results

UW-W coach Tim Fader took two teams of wrestlers to Pennsylvania.  The Warhawk varisty wrestled four times, winning three matches.

    Merchant Marine Academy 20, UW-Whitewater 16
    UW-Whitewater 28, Messiah College 9
    UW-Whitewater 29, McDanniel College 9

Fredrickson, who only appeared in one match for UW-W last year, won his first match against the Merchant Marine by technical fall.  He added a 3-2 decision in the win over Wesleyan, a 12-4 win against Messiah, and a 7-2 win versus McDaniel.  Schmidt won 14-2, 10-4, 5-0 and by pin at 2:00.  Sarbacker's victories were 5-3, (no bout vs. Wesleyan), 8-4, and an 18-3 technical fall win.  Schmidt is 5-3 this season and Sarbacker 13-3. 

Warhawks Adam Latella (Rockton, IL/Hononegah), ranked seventh in the Division III weight class rankings for 197, went 3-1 in the North South Duals to raise his win total to a team best 16-2, and Cheston Kellelhon went 3-1 at 165 to move his season record to 8-10. 

UW-W is 6-9 in dual meets this season, 6-7 against Division III competition.  The Warhawks will stay in Pennsylvania this week, training, then compete in the Budd Whitehill Duals hosted by Lycoming College in Williamsport, Pennsylvania Friday and Saturday, January 14-15.
