A costly 2-out error by the Titan rightfielder allowed the first Warhawk run to score in the bottom of the first. The next batter,
Kate McDonnell (Aurora, IL/West Aurora) took full advantage of the error by blasting a three-run homer to give the 'Hawks a 4-0 lead after one inning of play.
UW-W added a run in the second on a sacrifice fly by
Amanda LeBeau (Worth, IL/Richards), and added one more in the bottom of the third on sacrifice bunt by
Shauna Binsfeld (Cedarburg/Grafton), and two more on RBI singles by
Courtney Baldwin (Spring Grove, IL/Richmond-Burton), and LeBeau.
Jessica Stang (Minnetonka, MN/Minnetonka) pitched for UW-W and didn't allow a hit until the top of the fourth. She struck out two in the top of the fifth and got the final batter to ground out to second to end the game by virtue of the eight-run rule. Stang allowed just the one hit in the game and pitched her seventh shutout of the season. Stang is 15-7 this season.
The Warhawks advance to play again at 11:00 am against the loser of the game between UW-La Crosse and UW-Eau Claire. That game will be played at the Oshkosh Sports Complex. The WIAC tournament uses a double-elimination format and with the Warhawks loss to UW-Eau Claire on Friday, their next loss will end their tournament run.
