WIAC Tournament Run Ends; Await NCAA

The UW-W softball team saw their Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament run come to an end with a 2-0 loss to UW-La Crosse in the championship game in Oshkosh on Sunday.  The Warhawks battled back after losing one game in the double-elimination tournament on Saturday to force a decisive, winner-take-all championship game.  UW-W is now 31-15 overall while La Crosse is 36-7.

La Crosse took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first and added one more in the bottom of the third for the only two runs of the game.

The Warhawks attempted to rally in the top of the seventh when Amanda LeBeau (Worth, IL/Richards) leadoff with a double and moved to third on a foul out, but that was as far as she got as the Warhawks were unable to produce enough runs to extend the game.

The Warhawks produced just three hits in the game compared to UW-L's six.  Jessica Stang (Minnetonka, MN/Minnetonka), UW-W's workhorse on the mound for the past two days, took the loss and is 16-8.

La Crosse advances to the NCAA Division III softball tournament earning the automatic bid by winning the conference tournament for the second year in a row.  UW-Whitewater will await their fate as the announcement of the 60-team field is not released until Monday, May 10 at 11:00 am.  The selection show will be aired live on ncaa.com.  The Warhawks have made fourteen trips to the NCAA tournament.  If they receive an at-large bid it will be the third consecutive season in the tournament.
