UW-Whitewater took an early lead but fell to UW-Stevens Point in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament 15-7 on Friday in Whitewater. The tournament uses a double-elimination format so the Warhawks (35-5) will move on to play UW-Platteville on Friday.

A two-out single by Warhawk secondbaseman
Ben Kuhlmann (Minneapolis, MN/Southwest) in the bottom of the first scored
Jeff Donovan (Wauwatosa/East) to put the first run of the game on the board for either team. Two batters later
Mike Kenseth (Milwaukee/West Allis Hale) jacked a three-run homer, his second of the year, to give the 'Hawks a 4-0 lead.
The Pointers battled back with one in the top of the second, but UW-W got it back in the bottom of the inning on an RBI single by Donovan.
Point knotted the score in the top of the third plating four runs on four hits and took the lead in the top of the sixth with the same four run performance. The Pointers padded their lead with six more runs in the top of the ninth to take a 15-5 lead.
UW-W mounted a quasi comeback in the bottom of the ninth when leadoff batter
Nick Rechlitz (Milwaukee/Marquette) hit a ground-rule double to left and
Jordan Stine (Merrill/Merrill ) followed with his third homer of the year to pull closer at 15-7. That was it though, as the Warhawks were unable to climb back in the game.
Joel Delorit earned the win for the Pointers while
Riley Tincher (Oregon/Oregon) got the loss for UW-W, his first of the season.
UW-W moves on to play UW-Platteville in an elimination game on Friday evening. The winner of the game between the Pioneers and Warhawks will move on to face UW-Stevens Point on Saturday at noon in the first of what could be two championships in the double-elimination format tournament.
