Number two seed UW-Stevens Point, 27-13 and 16-8 in the WIAC, will play #3 seed UW-Platteville, 22-18 and 11-13, at 10:00 Friday. Whitewater, the WIAC champion and the top seed with a 31-4 mark overall and 19-3 record in league play, will play the Point-Platteville winner at 1:00 Friday. At 4:00 Friday the loser of game one will play the loser of game two in the double elimination format. Games are set for 12:00 and, if neccesary, 3:00 Sunday.
UW-Whitewater has won the last three WIAC championships, and seven of the last eight. UW-Stevens Point was the WIAC Tournament winner the last five consecutive years, and eight times in the twelve years of the event.
The WIAC Tournament was moved back to an on-campus site at the request of the league's coaches. In previous years it had been hosted by the city of Wisconsin Rapids.
The winner of the WIAC Tournament, not the league championship, receives the league's automatic berth in thte National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III championship tournament. The NCAA III tourney begins play Wednesday, May 19, and UW-Whitewater will be hosting a regional.
