In January, Slak was recognized by UW-Whitewater as the first graduate of the class of 2010, receiving his Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He was from Fort Atkinson Wisconsin and just 22 years old when diagnosed with gastric cancer. Slak owns the UW-W school record in the 100-yard butterfly with the time of 52.37 seconds, and he was a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference finalist in the 200 individual medley, the 100 butterfly and the 200 butterfly during his sophomore season of 2006-07. As a freshman in 2005-06, he was a WIAC finalist in the 200 and 100 butterfly events. Slakstrong Swimalong is being held by UW-W Recreation Programming and Leadership students as an event to defray medical expenses for the Slak family. It will be held on April 23, 2010 in the Williams Center Pool, anytime between 1-8pm.
