Jordan Stine (Merrill/Merrill ) didn't do it alone, but he certainly did a lot in a doubleheader sweep of UW-Stout on Saturday at Prucha Field in Whitewater. Stine went 7-for-8 on the day with eight runs scored and five RBIs as both games were shortened to seven innings because of the ten-run differential rule. The 'Hawks won game one 21-6 and game two 15-3. UW-W is 16-1 this season and 4-0 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference while the Blue Devils fall to 6-9 overall and 1-3 in the WIAC.

Early and often was how UW-W scored their runs in the first game. They scored four in the bottom of the first, one in the bottom of the second, five in the bottom of the third, and eight in the bottom of the fourth to open up an 18-0 lead. In that stretch, eight of the nine Warhawk batters scored one or more runs and seven of the nine had one or more RBIs.
UW-Stout plated four in the top of the fifth but the 'Hawks added two in the bottom half of the frame and one in the bottom of the sixth to push the score to 21-4. In the fifth,
Jeff Donovan (Wauwatosa/East) singled to account for the two runs and Stine accounted for the one RBI in the sixth.
Stout added two in the top of the seventh but were unable to overcome the run differential rule and the game ended after six and a half.
Jason Hooper (Lake Mills/Lake Mills) earned the win in game one for UW-W going four innings and giving up zero runs while striking out four.
In game two UW-Stout took a 1-0 lead thanks to three Warhawk errors in the top of the first, but that was the only lead they would have all day as UW-W answered with five in the bottom half of the frame. Stout scored two more in the top of the second but the Warhawk bats went back to work in the bottom of the inning by scoring five more. The 'Hawks tacked on three more in the bottom of the fourth and one in each of the fifth and sixth innings to increase their lead to 15-3.
Five Warhawk batters notched multiple hits in the game and four tallied multiple RBIs.
Jeff Donovan (Wauwatosa/East) held the Stout batters in check for six innings of the game, giving up just one earned run on five hits. No Blue Devil batter had more than one hit in the game. Donovan is 1-0 this season.
Besides Stine, several Warhawks had a great day at the plate including
Daniel Putnam (Ashland /Ashland) who was 4-for-8 with four RBIs and four runs, Donovan who went 5-for-8 with seven RBIs and two runs, and
Matt Beyer (Janesville/Parker) who was 4-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs.
These two teams will match-up again on Sunday at noon at Prucha field in James B. Miller Stadium.
