Putnam a Single Away from Cycle in Win

Daniel Putnam (Ashland /Ashland) was a single shy of hitting for the cycle in a 12-4 Warhawk win over Washington and Jefferson on Wednesday in Winterhaven, Florida.  Putnam tripled in the first inning, homered in the fourth, doubled in the sixth and scored three runs while driving in four.  UW-W is now 8-1.

Box score

The game was littered with errors by both teams with the Presidents registering five and the Warhawks four.  UW-W scored twelve runs off of just ten hits and five Warhawks reached base after being hit by a pitch.

Mike Kenseth (Milwaukee/West Allis Hale), 2-for-4, and Putnam, 3-for-5, were the only two 'Hawks to record multiple hits in the game.  Putnam has had multiple hits in six of nine games this season and leads the way for the team in that category.  He also has the most runs and hits (19 each), and is hitting .452 for the season.

Jordan Stine (Merrill/Merrill ) recorded three RBIs in the game; one on a sacrifice fly in the fourth and two off of a double in the sixth.  Stine has had four multiple RBI games this season.

Aaron Leitner (Chilton/Chilton ) earned the victory for UW-W and has a 2-1 record this season.  Leitner scattered nine hits while striking out four and walking none.

UW-W returns to Wisconsin for a doubleheader with Ripon on Saturday, March 27 beginning at 1:00 pm at Prucha Field in Whitewater.
