UW-W jumped out to a quick two-run lead in the first with Emily Epifanio (Park Ridge, IL/Maine South)'s double bringing in Amanda Mertes (Des Plaines, IL/Elk Grove). Later Epifanio crossed the plate on a single by Amanda LeBeau (Worth, IL/Richards). Three more hits including a double from Lauren Cruz (Des Plaines, IL/Maine West) put two more on the board for Whitewater in the third and would be all the Warhawks needed the rest of the way. Whitewater tacked on four more runs in the top of the fourth to stroll to the 8-2 win over Bethel.
Ten Warhawks had hits in the game. Mertes, Epifanio, Cruz and LeBeau all recorded multiple hits in the game and brought in all the runs for UW-W.
Junior lefty Jessica Stang (Minnetonka, MN/Minnetonka) notched her second win of the season going six innings while striking out four and walking three.
FDU
Eerily similar to the first game of the day, Whitewater kept the bats rolling against FDU. The Warhawks scored two in both the first and fifth innings and added three more in the sixth. Fairleigh-Dickinson would put one up on the scoreboard in the fourth but were shut down the rest of the game mustering just one hit in the last three innings.
Nine UW-W batters had hits in the second game with Mertes, Cruz, LeBeau, and Jordyn Gaza (Mundelein, IL/Carmel Catholic) recording two each.
Warhawk right-handers Brittany LeBeau (Worth, IL/Richards) and Stacy Bahr (Racine/Park) tag-teamed at the mound for UW-W allowing five hits in the game. The win marks Bahr's first of the season.
Whitewater was aggressive at the plate and on the bases with 12 different Warhawk hitters contributing to total 28 hits on the day including seven for extra bases and eight stolen bases.
UW-W will continue play in Clermont, FL Sunday with games at 8:30 and 10:30 am Eastern time against the University of Rochester and Eastern Connecticut State.
