UW-W is in fourth place after day one of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship, hosted by UW-River Falls at the University of Minnesota pool. The meet will continue Friday and conclude Saturday.
To avoid repetition, it was a season best performance. In every event Thursday, women and men, preliminaries or finals, UW-Whitewater recorded its fastest time of the season
UW-W's top finish Thursday was turned in by two relay teams. The 200 freestyle relay of
Landon Joiner (Hinsdale, IL /South),
Adam Altenburg (Watertown/Watertown)#,
Eric Nord (Hales Corner/Whitnall), and
Bill Stenavich (Brookfield/Central) placed third in 1:26.21. The 400 medley relay of
Andy Hanney (Grafton/Grafton),
Marcus Genrich (Janesville/Parker),
Nate Glover (Milton/Milton), and Stenavich also took third, in 3:32.28.
Joiner also earned points with a fourth place finish in the 50 freestyle in 21.43. He was tied for the best UW-W individual finish by
Kyle Stoermer (Ozark, MO/Nixa), who was fourth in the 500 freestyle in 4:43.83. Genrich contributed more points with a seventh place in the 200 individual medley, touching in 2:01.87.
Team scores after day one are UW-Stevens Point 274, UW-La Crosse 243, UW-Eau Claire 241.5, UW-Whitewater 99.5, UW-Oshkosh 76, and UW-River Falls 60.
