The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's soccer team, ranked ninth and thirteenth in the national Division III polls, lost to Chapman University 1-0 in Orange, California Friday night. UW-W ends the regular season 12-2-3, and will await word about a possible berth in the NCAA III championship tournament. The national field will be announced Monday.

Whitewater controlled the game early. UW-W's
Trevor Swentik (Delafield/Marquette University HS) got off a shot that was blocked at 5:11.
Steve Nashleanas (Brookfield/East) put a ball on net at 7:21 and CU goalie Tyler Hadzinsky made the save. Swentik was at the door again at 13:10, and once again had his shot blocked.
Whitewater had taken four shots before the Panthers got their first shot, by Nick Echeverry at 29:50 that Warhawk goalie
Matt Mikesell (Waukesha/Kettle Moraine) stopped, but the ball bounced back into a crowd near the net and CU's Chris Duran put the ball in the net at 29:53. It was Duran's first goal of the season.
Swentik had a chance for the evener, but Hadzinsky made the save at 34:13, and at 37:11 Swentik was back at it, but this time his shot was blocked by a defender.
UW-W switched goaltenders at the half, placing
Aaron Sesselmann (Green Bay/Notre Dame Academy) in the net.
CU's Mauricio Alfonso tested Sesselmann at 50:28, but the Sesselmann made the save. Swentik had another shot blocked, again, at 60:03. Alfonso got in on Sesselmann at 69:38 and 70:16, but was stoned both times. Whitewater's
Josh Chamberlain (De Pere/De Pere) had the potential tying goal blocked at 79:58, and
Dan Montanye (Mukwonago/Mukwonago) had UW-W's last attempt blocked at 85:29.
The loss was just the second time this season that UW-W has been shut out. The first came in a 0-0 tie with the University of Saint Thomas October 3 in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The shutout was the sixth of the season for Chapman's Hadzinsky. The Warhawks have ten shutouts to their credit this season.
Whitewater totaled ten shots in the game, CU had nine. CU had 12 fouls to five for UW-W, and the Warhawks led in corner kicks, 7-3. Chapman was called offsides five times and Whitewater once.
Chapman ends its regular season 10-7-2.
UW-W's twelve wins ties the fifth highest number of victories in a season in 33 years of soccer for the Warhawks, with a possibility of moving up the ladder in postseason play.
