Warhawk Golf Wraps Up Play at NCAA Championship

Williamsburg, VA -- The UW-Whitewater women's golf team wrapped up play in the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship Thursday.

Mother Nature played a hefty role through the first two days of the championship in Williamsburg. The first round saw a lengthy weather delay that forced the suspension of the round due to darkness with the Warhawks only halfway through. UWW came back Wednesday morning to finish round one and went into the second round before another delay stopped the round early once again. UW-Whitewater and those that had not completed round two returned to the course Thursday morning to wrap up the round before the cut.

UW-Whitewater finished with a 36-hole total of 649 but missed the cut into round three. Kallie Lux (Janesville, Wis./Craig) paced the Warhawks with a 156 (83-73). Ellie Johnson (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) was just a stroke back from Lux with a 157 (80-77). Haley Myers (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) carded a 165 (82-83) followed by Payton Schmidt's (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) 171 (84-87) and a 172 (84-88) from Kellie Shanahan (Wauconda, Ill./Mundelein)

During the championship, the NCAA announced Johnson as the recipient of the Elite 90 award. The honor is awarded to the individual competing in the championship with the top grade point average. She is the first golfer from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference to receive the Elite 90 award in the history of the honor.

Additionally, Natalie Kammer (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) received the Women's Golf Coaches Association Kim Moore Spirit Award. The award recognizes a student-athlete or coach who exemplifies a great spirit toward the game of golf, a positive attitude on and off the golf course, a role model for her team and mental toughness in facing challenges.

More information on Johnson's Elite 90 Award and Kammer's honor as the Kim Moore Award recipient will be posted early next week.

Day Two Recap
Williamsburg, VA -- For the second day in a row, weather has forced the suspension of the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship before the completion of a round. Round two will now be completed Thursday morning.

After a lengthy weather delay Tuesday followed by the suspension of play due to darkness, the Warhawks took to the course early Wednesday with nine holes remaining in round one. UW-Whitewater wrapped up round one play and got going on round two. The squad was able to get further than halfway in the second round before weather forced the committee to call it quits on the day. The Warhawks will complete their remaining holes of round two Thursday morning. Upon completion of the round, the field will be cut prior to the start of the third round. The current projected cut line is +37.

After nearly two rounds of play, the Warhawks are +64 and are 23rd on the team leaderboard. Kallie Lux (Janesville, Wis./Craig), Ellie Johnson (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg), Haley Myers (Somerset, Wis./Somerset), Kellie Shanahan (Wauconda, Ill./Mundelein) and Payton Schmidt (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) are representing UWW at the 2025 championships.

A full recap when round two is complete and the cut is announced will be released Thursday.

Day One Recap
Williamsburg, VA -- Day one of the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship was hampered by Mother Nature Tuesday. A lengthy weather delay forced the suspension of play before the round was complete. Play will resume Wednesday.

The rain began around 10:25 ET this morning and it was after 3 when the players were able to return to the course. The lengthy delay meant the majority of the championship field were unable to finish their rounds. All five Warhawk golfers were just halfway through their 18 when the call to suspend play for the day was made.

According to a note from host Christopher Newport University, round one will resume at 8 AM ET Wednesday followed by the originally scheduled 18 for round two.
