Las Vegas, Nev. -- The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's bowling team competed in the Intercollegiate Team Championships this week. Additionally,
Jordyn Norvell (Pleasant Prairie, Wis./Tremper) represented the Warhawks in Intercollegiate Singles competition.
The championship week opened with singles play. Norvell totaled 1229 in the qualifying round to head into bracket play seeded 16th. Norvell opened the six-game qualifying set with scores of 184, 204 and 215. She wrapped up qualifying with a 214, 188 and 224. In the first round of bracket play, Norvell fell to Arkansas State's Kaitlyn Ruszczak 642-521.
The team championships opened with a pair of 12-game qualifying blocks. In the first block, the Warhawks totaled 2367. UWW accumulated a total of 2299 in the second set of 12 games for a grand total of 4666 to claim the 10th seed.
UW-Whitewater was pitted against Mount Mercy to open play in the blue bracket. The Warhawks fell 4-2 in their first match before taking down North Carolina A&T 4-1. The Warhawks' run in the team championships ended in a 4-2 loss to Pikeville in the next match.
The nationals journey capped a phenomenal season for UW-Whitewater women's bowling. First-year head coach Rebecca Hagerman was named the Division III Coach of the Year while
Kelly Whipple (Sheboygan, Wis./South) was named the DIII Bowler of the Year for the second time in her career. The Warhawks were dominant in Division III, leading the nation in traditional frame average, Baker frame average, Baker double percentage and overall spare conversion.
