Normal, IL -- The UW-Whitewater women's golf team tied for seventh in a field of 21 teams at the Kathy Niepagen Spring Fling hosted by Illinois Wesleyan.
Battling a fierce wind, the teams' second round was incredibly challenging Sunday. The Warhawks shot 339 Sunday to finish with a total of 647.
Ellie Johnson (Johnsburg, Ill./Johnsburg) was the top Warhawk finisher on the individual leaderboard. The senior was +12 Sunday to tie for 14th with a two-round score of 156.
Kallie Lux (Janesville, Wis./Craig) carded an 83 in round two to finish with a 158 and tie for 17th.
Payton Schmidt (Jefferson, Wis./Jefferson) jumped three spots to share 34th with a 163.
Haley Myers (Somerset, Wis./Somerset) (174) and
Abbie Reiser (Washington, Ill./Washington Community) (175) rounded out the Warhawks' top squad.
UW-Whitewater's second group finished 19th on the team leaderboard.
Jessica Velent (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) (81-88-169) led the way followed by
Emily Akers (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) (92-90-182),
Natalie Kammer (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Fort Atkinson) (94-91-185),
Breezy Roman (Fort Atkinson, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran) (87-94-181) and
Norah Berken (Kaukauna, Wis./Kaukauna) (89-95-184).
Next Up: The Warhawks will host a spring invite April 25-26 at the Riverside Golf Course in Janesville.

Johnson shot an even 72 on day one to pace the Warhawk's 'A' squad at the tournament. She shared the lead with two other golfers after the first round.
