The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's track and field team finished fifth at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by UW-Platteville this weekend.
Danielle Pouska (Algonquin, IL/Jacobs) bolstered the Warhawks Saturday placing in two individual events and running the anchor on UWW's 4x100 squad. The sprinter crossed the line in 12.09 to secure third in the 100 meter dash. That mark is a top 35 time nationally and a career high. Pouska added another college best in the 200 with a time of 25.18 to finish sixth in the event.
In the 4x100, the Warhawk combination posted a time of 47.88 to finish third.
Hannah Bilodeau (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem) led off the relay followed by
Maddie Buehler (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) and
Jacqueline Kornowski (Green Bay, Wis./Preble) with Pouska anchoring the foursome.
A pair of Warhawks added points to the team total in the 1,500 meter run.
Ari De La Cerda (Milwaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) led the way with the fastest time by a UWW runner this season - 4:43.98 - to take sixth.
Katie Erb (Winnebago, Ill./Winnebago) finished eighth with a time of 4:44.50.
Lena Becker (Toulon, Ill./Stark County) notched a career best in the 100 hurdles. Her time of 15.38 was good for eighth Saturday. Bilodeau posted a time of 58.25, her career best in the event, to claim fourth.
In the 800,
Paige Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) took seventh with a time of 2:17.25.
Payton Scoggin (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trails) rounded out the individuals finishing among the top eight on the track Saturday. She finished in fourth place with a time of 17:54.76 in the 5,000 meter run.
The final event on the track of the championships was the 4x400 relay. UW-Whitewater's combination of
Abby Giese (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail),
Katie McNamara (Geneva, Ill./Geneva),
Lily Cooper (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn) and Bilodeau crossed the line in 4:03.09 to finish sixth.
In the field events, the Czarnecki's added points to the team total in the discus.
Kenni Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) led the way with a fifth place finish after recording a toss of 41.24 meters (135-4).
Ryleigh Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) was right behind with a mark of 40.79 meters (133-10) to finish sixth.
Brynn Fuerstenberg (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) tied for fourth in the high jump with a leap of 1.59 meters (5-2.5).
At the conclusion of the meet, the WIAC recognized the winners of multiple awards.
Emma Shingledecker (New Berlin, Wis./West) represented UWW on the Larry Zirgibel All-Sportsmanship Team.

UW-Whitewater will have multiple last chance meets to better qualifying marks before setting off for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. The national championships are slated for May 23-25 in Myrtle Beach, SC.
