Dakota Mitchell (Sun Prairie, Wis./West) from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's track team was named the WIAC Newcomer of the Year in a release from the conference on Monday morning.

A newcomer is defined as a student-athlete who used her first season of participation in women's outdoor track & field this season. 

At the conference meet, Mitchell was third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.90 seconds and fourth in the 200-meter dash in 24.55 seconds. She was a member of the second-place 4x100-meter relay.

Mitchell currently ranks 8th in the nation in the 100-meter dash. National qualifying lists will be released this upcoming weekend. Visit for more information
