The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's track and field team finished fourth in a 24-team field at the Meet of Champions hosted by Augustana College Friday-Saturday.
Tina Shelton (Janesville, Wis./Parker) was absolutely flying in the fastest event of the meet, the 100 meter dash. Shelton's 11.73 in the preliminaries is the best time in Division III this season by .07. She did not compete in the finals of the event, but Warhawks
Danielle Pouska (Algonquin, IL/Jacobs) and
Maddie Buehler (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) represented UWW with top eight finishes. Pouska was clocked in 12.30 to finish sixth while Buehler's 12.57 was good for eighth.
Kenni Czarnecki (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) tallied the lone gold for the Warhawks at the meet. Her hammer throw distance of 52.77 meters (173-1) won the event and ranks 16th in the nation this season. Czarnecki added sixth-place points to the team total in the discus with a heave of 41.35 meters (135-8).
Lena Becker (Toulon, Ill./Stark County) posted a fifth-place finish in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.84. In the 400,
Lily Cooper (Elkhorn, Wis./Elkhorn) was sixth, crossing the line in 1:01.74.
Paige Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) and
Ari De La Cerda (Milwaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) each registerd seventh-place finishes. Fassbender stopped the clock in 2:19.03 in the 800 while De La Cerda recorded a time of 4:44.54 in the 1500.
Gracie Holland (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) tallied a runner-up finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.31 meters (17-5.25).
Lexie Weier (Mineral Point, WI) was eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.46 meters (34-4). In the shot put,
Brooke Mader (Green Bay, Wis./Ashwaubenon) led UWW with a distance of 11.29 meters (37-0.5) to finish fifth.
Two Warhawks registered top eight finishes in the pole vault.
Zoe Jenks-Recker (Cottage Grove, Wis./Monona Grove) led the way with a height of 3.44 meters (11-3.5) to finish third.
Ella Maher's (Rockford, Ill./Winnebago) height of 3.29 meters (10.9-5) was seventh.
The UW-Whitewater 4x100 and 4x400 relay squads finished second and third respectively. The UWW team of
Hannah Bilodeau (Machesney Park, IL/Harlem), Shelton,
Jacqueline Kornowski (Green Bay, Wis./Preble) and Pousa crossed the line second in the 4x100 with a time of 47.78. Fassbenfder led off the 4x400 crew that also included
Abby Giese (Kenosha, Wis./Indian Trail),
Katie McNamara (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) and Bilodeau that finished with a time of 4:01.46.
