The UW-Whitewater women's bowling team finished 10th in a 17-team field dominated by Division I programs at the Motiv LadyJack Classic hosted by Stephen F. Austin this weekend.
The competition opened with five rounds of Baker matches on Friday. The Warhawks opened with a win but suffered four narrow losses to close out the day. UWW dropped one match by a single pin and the final match of the day by just three to head into Saturday 11th in the team standings.
Saturday was filled with more exciting, close matches - this time the Warhawks came out on top each time. After a pair of big wins to open the day, UW-Whitewater won the last two matches Saturday by a combined total of 10 pins. With an overall pinfall of 9,313 after two days, the Warhawks went into bracket Sunday as the 11th seed.
Individually,
Zoey Darwin (Monona, Wis./Monona Grove) paced the Warhawks with a five-game total of 951 to finish 40th. Emily O'Bryn (936),
Kelly Whipple (Sheboygan, Wis./South) (915) and
Kayla Devine () (884) each bowled all five games for UWW Saturday.
Dani Swaisgood (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs) and
Ashley Bowe (Brillion, Wis./) split the day with three and two games respectively.
Bracket Sunday featured more Baker games with the Warhawks taking down Lewis and McKendree to set up a match against Arkansas State in a battle for ninth. UWW took a 2-1 lead in the match, but ASU won the next three for the final.
