Bowlers Finish Second at Warhawk Classic

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's bowling team finished second in a field of eight teams at the Warhawk Classic in Rockford, Illinois this weekend. 

The Warhawks went into championship Sunday as the top seed. 

The Road to Sunday...
The Warhawk Classic opened Friday with a series of five sets of five Baker games. UWW opened with a 979-828 win over Elmhurst followed by a 930-880 victory over Carthage. In the third Baker series of the day, the Warhawks took down the University of Maryland Eastern Shore 925-883. The sole loss on the day came on a 22-pin differential to Marian. UW-Whitewater capped day one with an 854-792 win over Aurora. 

Day two consisted of traditional team games that had UWW heading into bracket Sunday with a 9-1 record and a total pinfall of 9,202. 

Kayla Devine () topped the individual leaderboard with a 1,000 pinfall, an average of 200 per game. Kelly Whipple (Sheboygan, Wis./South) and Dani Swaisgood (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs) added top ten finishes. Whipple averaged 195.20 while Swaisgood averaged 176.60 for fourth and tenth respectively. 

On championship Sunday, the Warhawks fell to UMES in a best-of-seven Baker series. UWW responded with a win over Elmhurst in straight Baker games before falling to UMES in the title bout.
