Bowlers Wrap Up Regular Season at Music City Classic

The No. 20 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's bowling team wrapped up the regular season at the Music City Classic this weekend. 

The Warhawks opened the tournament with a big win over No. 5 Stephen F. Austin 979-955. Becca Howard and Rachel Nelson (Poplar Grove, Ill./Belvidere North) had 100% and 90% fill rates respectively to lead UWW in the match. Match two had No. 7 North Carolina A&T topping UW-Whitewater 1085-944. 

UWW bounced back with a 1071-868 win over Long Island University led by a 100% fill rate from Kelly Whipple (Sheboygan, Wis./South) followed by a 961-853 win over Marian. The Warhawks wrapped up Friday with a 3-2 record after a 1033-914 loss to Emmanuel. 

In the traditional team games on day two, the Warhawks bounced back from back-to-back losses to open Saturday with three straight victories. UWW fell to No. 25 Sacred Heart 953-835 and No. 2 Vanderbilt 1024-924 before rattling off wins against Wagner (954-818), Tusculum 987-920 and Monmouth 932-923. 

Whipple ranked 25th in the traditional team games averaging 205.8 over the five-game span.

The Warhawks competed in three matches in Sunday's brackets. Heading into championship Sunday, UWW was seeded 12th but fell to Lincoln Memorial in the first match of the day. LMU took the first game before the Warhawks won the next three. Nineteenth-ranked LMU tied the match 3-3 before taking the final game, and the match. 

UWW had a strong second match in bracket play averaging 207 over the seven-game series, still UCM took the last three games to win the match. 

In the final matchup of bracket play, the Warhawks averaged 195.6 per game but fell to SHU 4-2. 

The Warhawks wrap up the regular season with an overall record of 64-47. UWW will await word of postseason invitations to the NCAA Championships while preparing for the USBC National Championship set for April.
