The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's bowling team, ranked 20th in the latest coaches poll, finished ninth in a field of 17 teams at the Mid-Winter Classic over the weekend.
UW-Whitewater went 3-7 over the first two days on the weekend. The tournament highlight came on day one as the Warhawks upset top-ranked McKendree 1059-1037.
Kelly Whipple (Sheboygan, Wis./South) was phenomenal in the Baker match with 100% fill rate and strike percentage at 75%. The Warhawks went on to average 197.2 per game in the first 10 matches.
UWW went 2-1 in bracket play Sunday. The Warhawks dropped their first match to Lincoln Memorial University before bouncing back with a sweep of Central Missouri to setup a rematch with LMU. This time, UWW came out on top to secure ninth.
The weekend average over 13 matches for the Warhawks was 199.1 per game.
Whipple was the top bowler representing UW-Whitewater in the individual standings. Her average of 205.6 in five games with a total pinall of 1,028 was 26th in a field of 100 bowlers on the individual leaderboard. Skye Faar added a top 30 finish averaging 203.2 over a five-game set.
