The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's & women's swim team competed in their first conference match today in Oshkosh against the Titans. The men's team picked up the win with a dominant 227-68 victory, but the Women's final was closer, with Warhawks not being able to overcome the Titans 194-97.
**Women's Swim Highlights**
The Women's 200M Medley got things started right away for the Warhawks.. The women's team, comprised of
Izzy Doczy (Greendale, Wis./Greendale),
Hannah Wenszell (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Virtual),
Paige Malitz (Wausau, Wis./DC Everest), &
Emily Connell (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) touched second with a time 1:57.84.Â
2 of the members of that 200M medley also picked up their own top finishes. Wenszell also picked up a first-place touch in the 1000M Free with a time of 11:25.11. Doczy finished first in the 100M back with a time of 1:03.33.Â
Wenszell earned an addition podium finish in the 500M Free, with a time of 5:37.01. In addition, Wenszell had a good showing in the 200M IM, placing first out of all the swimmers with a time of 2:24.07.Â
**Men's Swim Highlights**
For the first men's meet of the match, The men's 200M medley of
Ethan Schmohe (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan),
Donny Gramer (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore),
Ethan Bergman (Racine, Wis./Bradford), &
Dom Schlueter (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) picked up the gold with a time of 1:37.88.
Later on in the meet, Schlueter would pick up multiple first-place finishes in his individual events. Schlueter finished the 200M Free in 1:46.08, the 100M Free in 47.59, & the 200M IM with a time of 2:03.43. As well as the 200M Free Relay along with teammates
Owen Phillips (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa Township), Gramer, & Bergman
Schmohe & Gramer also picked up individual golds, with Schmohe finishing first in the 100M back (54.65 seconds) & Gramer in the 100M Breast (1:00.58). Bergman also picked up a first place touch in the 54.18.Â
Caleb Weis (Burlington, Wis./Burlington) touched first in the 1000M Free with a time of 10:30.41. That time was 11 seconds better than the second place finisher.Â
The Warhawks had the top three spots in the 200M Fly with
Matt Sipin (Round Lake, Ill./Grayslake Central), Matt Ozog, &
Jalen Stimes (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) all touching in that order.Â
Owen Phillips (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa Township) picked up a first-place finish in the 50M Free. Phillips swam the quick race in a 22.62 time. In addition to that, Phillips also took first in the 200M Breast with a time of 2:20.9.Â
Hunter Hayberger (Sandusky, Ohio/Sandusky) placed first in the 500M Free with a time of 5:02.85.Â
**Diving Highlights**
In the 1M men's dive,
Drew Schmitz (Appleton, Wis./North) scored an impressive 227.30 & was followed by two more Warhawks on the podium.
Daniel Farrell (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek) with a 190.05 &
Edwin Villagomez (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) with a 162.50.Â
All three men's divers also competed in the 3M dive, this time Farrell picked up first with a score of 192.15, with Schmitz super close with a score of 191.15. Villagomez placed fourth with a score of 143.05.Â
Next up for the Warhawk Swim/Dive Teams is another WIAC match-up against UW-Stevens Point. On Saturday, November 18th, the Warhawks will host UW-Stevens Point in the Williams Center Pool. The meet is set to start at 1 PM.
