The University Men's and Women's Swim and Dive team faced off against conference opponent UW-Stevens Point in Whitewater on Saturday afternoon. The men's team, faced a huge challenge, with the UW-Stevens Point men's swim team finishing first in the WIAC for the past 23 years, at the end of the meet, UWSP tallied 201 points with UWW scoring 114. It was an improvement from last year, where the Warhawk men's squad lost 227-65. UW-Stevens Point also tallied more points on the women's side, defeating the Warhawks 221-84.
Women's Swimming Highlights
Hannah Wenszell (Milwaukee, Wis./Wisconsin Virtual) picked up the Warhawks first gold of the event, taking a commanding victory in the 1000 Freestyle. Wenszell finished the 1000 in 11:20.69, 12-seconds ahead of the second place UWSP swimmer.Â
Izzy Doczy (Greendale, Wis./Greendale) finished second in the 100 Backstroke, with a time of 1:03.36.Â
Emily Connell (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) touched first in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 25.55. Connell also picked up the first place spot in the 100 Freestyle, clocking in with a time of 56.37.
Hannah Gault (Moline, Ill./Senior) placed first in the 200 IM, clocking in with a time of 2:23.28. Gault also added a podium finish in the 200 Butterfly, finishing second with a time of 2:27.56
Men's Swimming Highlights
Hunter Hayberger (Sandusky, Ohio/Sandusky) picked up the men's first gold of the meet in the 1000 Freestyle. Hayberger finished with a time of 10:27.73. Hayberger put together an amazing race in the 500 Freestyle. Hayberger took second in the event, with a time of 5:02.88, only 0.22 seconds behind the Pointer who finished first.Â
Ethan Schmohe (Sullivan, Ill./Sullivan) touched first in the 100 Backstroke, finishing with a time of 54.51.
Ethan Bergman (Racine, Wis./Bradford) also picked up the gold for the Warhawks in the 50 Freestyle, finishing the dash in a time of 21.93. Bergamn also took a podium finish in the 100 Butterfly, finishing second with a time of 51.85.
Matt Sipin (Round Lake, Ill./Grayslake Central) picked up another gold in the 200 yard butterfly. Sipin was the only Warhawk in the event and finished with a time of 2:06.29.
Dom Schlueter (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) finished first in the 100 Freestyle, clocking in at 47.99.
Owen Phillips (Ottawa, Ill./Ottawa Township) put up a close race in the 200 Butterfly, taking second in the event. Schlueter took second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.78 finishing only behind, Dainel Keller, who placed first in the event, finishing with a time of 2:02.78.
Men's Diving
Drew Schmitz (Appleton, Wis./North),
Daniel Farrell (Oak Creek, Wis./Oak Creek), and
Edwin Villagomez (Burbank, Ill./Reavis) all competed in the 1 meter diving event. Schmitz (5th-202.75) and Farrell (6th-187.15) both scored team points for the Warhawk. In the 3 meter, Farrell (5th-199.10) and Shmitz (6th-190.70) added points to the overall team score.
