Bowlers Win Midwest Collegiate Championship

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's bowling team opened the 2023-24 season with a first-place finish at the Midwest Collegiate Championships. The Warhawks were the top squad in the 36-team field and won three-straight head-to-head matches in bracket play Sunday for the title.

UWW opened the competition with six traditional team games Saturday. The Warhawks posted a total pinfall of 5743, just 20 pins outside of second place after day one.

Sunday consisted of 16 Baker games to set up the championship bracket. UW-Whitewater's overall total pinfall of 8682 (5743 in traditional games + 8682 in Baker games) had the Warhawks as the three-seed in the final bracket.

The seven-team championship bracket featured best-of-three Baker series with the Warhawks drawing Judson, the number six seed. UWW advanced with wins of 199-154 and 172-149.

In the semifinals, UW-Whitewater bounced back from a first game 192-223 loss to take down the number two seed Mount Mercy 204-176 and 195-182 and punch their ticket to the final.

The title series took just two games as the Warhawks defeated the top seed Webber International 178-159 and 192-155.
