Bowlers Fourth, Four Warhawks in Top 15 Individually

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's bowling team finished four in a 12-team field at the Columbia 300 Saints Invite hosted by Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri over the weekend. Four Warhawks finished among the top 15 individually in the tournament. 

UWW finished the weekend 8-5 with a total pinfall of 13,075, an average of 190.6 per game. Individually, Kelly Whipple (Sheboygan, Wis./South) and Skye Faar finished among the top 10 (9th and 10th), each averaging over 195 per game in the tournament. Rachel Nelson (Poplar Grove, Ill./Belvidere North) and Rebecca Howard (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove) were 14th and 15th respectively on the individual leaderboard with averages over 190 for the weekend. 

The Warhawks opened the tournament with Baker matches Friday. UWW led after the first day of competition after registering a 3-2 record on the day. The Warhawks started with a tournament with a 990-920 win over Lincoln Memorial University before dropping a pair of matches to Maryville 1,015-936 and 1,027-996 to Tusculum. UWW bounced back with a big 1,024-807 win over North Central and wrapped up the day with a 947-615 win over Spalding. 

In Saturday's traditional game set, the Warhawks once again opened with a win, 942-707 over Upper Iowa. Match two had Wright State edging UWW 881-855 but the Warhawks responded four consecutive wins including a close 974-967 win over Newman, an 898-633 win over Illinois Wesleyan, a 988-933 defeat of Lewis and a 1,017-967 route of Central Missouri. 

On championship Sunday, the Warhawks won the first two games against Lewis University but dropped the next four. In the second series of the day, UWW opened up a 3-0 advantage but Maryville took the next four to push the Warhawks to fourth.
