The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's track and field teams recognized its 2022 senior class on Senior Day Presented by Educators Credit Union and held Military Appreciation Day Friday at the Drake Alternative Meet at Rex Foster Track.
Team scores were not calculated at the meet.
On the women's side,
Paige Fassbender (Slinger, Wis./Slinger) and
Abigail Missiaen (Muskego, Wis./Muskego) each won their respective events. Fassbender topped a field of 36 runners in the 400-meter dash with a career-best time of 59.64 seconds. Missiaen led a group of 30 competitors in the long jump with a personal best distance of 17-09.50 (5.42 meters).
Tori Verbeck (Geneseo, Ill./Geneseo) finished seventh out of 29 throwers in the javelin with a mark of 107-03 (32.70 meters).
Sarah Niehueser (Fond du Lac, Wis./Winnebago Lutheran Academy) placed ninth out of 37 runners in the 800-meter run, crossing the finish line in 2:27.83.
For the men,
Landon Keefover (Antioch, Ill./Antioch) won the 110-meter hurdles in a career-best time of 14.65 seconds, good for a top 25 time in NCAA Division III.
Carsen Rindt (Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran) and
Gunner Schlender (Brillion, Wis./Brillion) earned runner-up finishes on the track. Rindt ran a personal record time of 11.05 in the 100-meter dash, while Schlender completed the 1,500-meter run in 3:56.91.
Josh Krystosek (Palmyra, Wis./Palmyra-Eagle) and
Shelvin Garrett II (Beloit, Wis./Memorial) recorded second-place finishes in field events. Krystosek entered the nation's top 25 in the high jump with a season-best 6-06.75 (2.00 meters) and Garrett boosted his top 25 national distance to 46-10.00 (14.27 meters) in the triple jump.

At the start of the meet, 1LT, AV, WIARNG Meredith Porter, an All-American and member of the Warhawk women's team from 2014-17, landed a Wisconsin Air National Guard helicopter at the intramural fields across the street from Rex Foster Track. Spectators had the opportunity to explore the helicopter and learn about its equipment until it departed just after 2 p.m.
The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships are set for Friday and Saturday, May 6-7, in La Crosse, Wis.
