The No. 20 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater bowling team earned a pair of wins against nationally ranked opponents Saturday on the first day of the Columbia 300 Saints Invitational at Bowlero Lakeside in Valley Park, Mo.
The Warhawks topped No. 24 Central Missouri and No. 10 Maryville while falling against top-five opponents McKendree and Nebraska in four traditional matches.
Rachel Nelson (Poplar Grove, Ill./Belvidere North) led UW-Whitewater and finished seventh out of 37 players with a 1,034 series over five games (206.80 average).
Caitlin Mertins (Racine, Wis./Park) also finished among the top 10, placing ninth overall with a 991 (198.20 average), including a team-best game of 234.
Kelly Whipple (Sheboygan, Wis./South) finished with a 907 (181.40 average), good for 14th place, and
Kelsey Jaeger (New London, Wis./Little Wolf) rolled a 685 over four games for a 171.25 average and 18th place.
Olivia Zinanni (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) bowled three games and totaled a score of 529 (176.33 average), good for 24th place.
Sam Knab (Antioch, Ill./Antioch) placed 30th with a 301 in two games (150.50 average), and
Taylor Jensen (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) rolled a 204 in her lone game for 31st place.
The Warhawks play four Baker matches to wrap up tournament play Sunday.
