The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's swimming programs fell to UW-Stevens Point on the road Saturday afternoon. The men's final was 213-76 while the women's was 227-65.
Dom Schlueter (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) picked up the first win of the day for a Warhawk in the pool. He topped the field in the 200-yard freestyle by three-tenths of a second with a clocking 1:46.36. He picked up a second gold with a time of 47.29 in the 100 free.
Zaria Terry (Madison, Wis./La Follette) paced the Warhawk women with a 100 freestyle win. She came into the wall eight-tenths ahead of the runner-up with a time of 54.10. Joey Wenszell was tops in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:04.02 while
Gabby Sponseller (Goshen, Ind./Concord) won the women's 200 breaststroke with a posting of 2:37.57.
UWW registered a number of runner-up finishes including:
Hannah Gault (Moline, Ill./Senior) (200 butterfly),
Naomi Hamerla (Lac Du Flambeau, Wis./Lakeland Union) (200 backstroke),
Daniel Keller (Omaha, Neb./Papillion-LaVista) (200 breaststroke), and
Gianna Gnewuch (Madison, Wis./Verona Area) (200 IM).
In the relays, the Warhawks' 200-yard medley combination of Gnewuch, Sponseller, Hamerla and Terry were clocked in 1:54.85 for second. The men were third with a time of 1:40.23 from Wenszell,
Donny Gramer (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore),
Ethan Coons (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) and
Ethan Bergman (Racine, Wis./Bradford). UW-Whitewater's foursome of Terry,
Morgan Nabors (Spring Green, Wis./River Valley),
Emily Connell (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) and
Ava Hennig (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) recorded a runner-up time of 1:43.51 in the 200 free relay. The men's squad including Schlueter,
Hunter Hayberger (Sandusky, Ohio/Sandusky), Matt Ozog and
Matt Sipin (Round Lake, Ill./Grayslake Central) were third with a clocking of 1:31.45.
