The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater women's tennis team won their 23
rd Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title in program history after capturing titles eight of nine championships in singles and doubles competition. The Warhawks hold the most league titles of any team in the WIAC. The league champion was determined by using a combination of regular-season dual meet standings and the singles and doubles results from the WIAC championship this weekend.
Courtney Day (Oshkosh, Wis./North) was named the league's Judy Kruckman Scholar-Athlete. She is the third consecutive Warhawk to be named the Kruckman Scholar-Athlete and 11th overall.
Kasey Schlicht (Pewaukee, Wis./Pewaukee) represented UWW on the All-Sportsmanship Team.Â
Autumn Bruno (Milwaukee, Wis./Greenfield Whitnall) captured the No. 1 singles title with a 6-1, 1-0 win over Eau Claire's Clare Palen. Palen retired in the second set. Bruno is the 14
th champion at No. 1 singles in UWW history.
Gianna Nikoleit (Elmhurst, Ill./York Community) cruised to the No. 2 singles title with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Samantha Fuchs of UW-Eau Claire to become 18
th conference champion in the No. 2 bracket in program history.
Cassie Lee (Downers Grove, Ill./Timothy Christian) registered the first singles title of the 2022 WIAC Championships Sunday with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over UW-La Crosse's Katie Kearney. The Warhawks have won eight of the last nine titles at No. 3 singles.
Kellie Ha's (Palatine, Ill./Fremd) No. 5 singles match was the last to go final as she defeated UW-La Crosse's Kate Townsend for the title. UWW has dominated at No. 5 singles with Ha's title marking the 17
th in the last 18 seasons singles champions have been awarded.
Bethany Marshall (Cary, Ill./Cary-Grove) grabbed the No. 6 singles title in a close match against UW-La Crosse's Emma Heinert. Marshall won the opening set 6-2 and took the second 7-5. She is the 17
th No. 6 singles champion in school history.
Schlicht was the runner-up at No. 4 singles after a tough battle with Anna Lee of UW-EC. Lee took the opening set 6-1 but Schlicht event the match winning set two 2-6. Lee captured the title with a 10-8 win in the tie break.
In doubles competition, Nikoleit paired with Day to take the No. 3 doubles title 8-4 for the 18
th time in program history. The Warhawk duo topped UW-Eau Claire's Morgan Dekan and Sydney Presler in the final. Day is now a two-time doubles champion with a win at No. 3 doubles in 2019.
At No. 2 doubles, the UWW pairing of Schlicht and Ha defeated UW-EC's Morgan Nelson and Anna Lee 8-2. That title is the 12
th in program history since 2004 in the No. 2 doubles bracket.
The final doubles bout to come in was another title for the Warhawks as Bruno captured her second straight No. 1 doubles championship, this time with Lee as a partner. The duo topped UW-EC's Palen and Fuchs 8-7 (7-4) for the title. UWW has won seven of the last eight titles at No. 1 doubles.
The Warhawks advance to a four-team WIAC tournament to be held in the spring. The winner of that tournament will receive the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Championships.
