The No. 20 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater bowling team posted victories against a pair of top 15 teams Saturday on the second day of the Northeast Classic at Bowlero in Deptford, N.J.
The Warhawks topped No. 15 Fairleigh Dickinson and No. 12 Duquesne in traditional matches and pushed their record to 3-7 for the tournament. With a cumulative score of 9,366 (187.3 per game), UW-W will be the 17th seed in Sunday's best-of-7 Baker bracket play.
Kelly Whipple (Sheboygan, Wis./South) led UW-Whitewater in traditional scoring with a 1,034 series over five games, good for a 206.80 average and 35th place out of 135 players.
Caitlin Mertins (Racine, Wis./Park) also bowled all five traditional games and finished in 55th place with her score of 960 (192.00 avg.).
Olivia Zinanni (Sterling, Ill./Sterling) and
Kelsey Jaeger (New London, Wis./Little Wolf) placed 75th and 78th, respectively, with four-game series. Zinanni totaled a 770, including a team-best game of 232, for an average of 192.50. Jaeger rolled a 748 for a 187 average.
Taylor Jensen (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) placed 89th with a 551 over three games (183.67 average), while
Rebecca Howard (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Buffalo Grove) collected a 356 in two games (178 average).
Rachel Nelson (Poplar Grove, Ill./Belvidere North) registered a single game of 169 to place 109th, and
Sam Knab (Antioch, Ill./Antioch) generated a 159 to finish 113th.
The Warhawks start Sunday's best-of-seven Baker bracket tournament against 18th-seeded Wilmington (Del.).
