No. 24 Bowling Posts 4-1 Mark on Day 2 at Flyer Classic

The No. 24 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater bowling team is fifth following the second day of Lewis University's Flyer Classic at Strike and Spare II in Lockport, Ill.
 
The Warhawks, who own a 7-3 record for the weekend after four wins in five traditional sets on Saturday, have totaled 9,228 pins over 10 matches for an average of 184.6 per game. They are just over 100 pins shy of second place.
 
Rachel Nelson (Poplar Grove, Ill./Belvidere North) and Mary Conneely (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) led UW-W in traditional scoring. Nelson amassed 974 pins over five games, good for 14th place out of 61 bowlers and a 194.50 average. Conneely finished 16th with 967 pins over five games and an average of 193.40.
 
Karlee Barton (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West) also competed in all five games, tallying 905 pins for 26th place and a 181.00 average.
 
Sam Knab (Antioch, Ill./Antioch) rolled up 683 pins in four games to place 43rd, and averaged 170.75 per game. Taylor Purgett (Marshfield, Wis./Marshfield) tied for the second-highest game of the day for the team (212) and finished 47th with 563 pins over three games (187.67 average).
 
Caitlin Mertins (Racine, Wis./Park) picked up 366 pins, including a 212 game, and averaged 183.00 per game while placing 51st. Kelsey Jaeger (New London, Wis./Little Wolf) finished 58th with her game of 143.
 
UW-Whitewater will begin Sunday's best-of-seven Baker bracket play against Lewis, the No. 6 seed. The Warhawks can finish as high as third place.
