The No. 13 ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team competed Saturday against a mix of athletes from scholarship schools and some of the top Division III programs in the country during the MSOE Invite in Milwaukee and Parkside's Jim Koch Wisconsin Open in Kenosha.
 
Jake Burford (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) highlighted the day by taking the title at 149 pounds at the MSOE Invite. His 5-0 record included one pin, one technical fall and one major decision.
 
Tyler Klein (Hartford, Wis./Hartford Union) finished third at 125 pounds with a 4-1 mark, including one pin and one major decision. Dakarai Clay (Madison, Wis./Madison East) reached the consolation semifinal at 141 pounds thanks to five consecutive victories through the wrestleback portion of the bracket, including two against opponents from nationally-ranked Augsburg.
 
Jaritt Shinhoster (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Barrington) led the Warhawks at the Jim Koch Wisconsin Open, reaching the final at 184 pounds with a 3-1 record that included one pin, one technical fall and one major decision. His lone loss was a narrow 3-2 decision against an unattached wrestler from Division I Illinois.
 
Ryan Vedner (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) placed sixth at 174 pounds.
 
UW-Whitewater returns to action Wednesday at 7 p.m. at UW-Eau Claire.
