Eau Claire, Wis. -- The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater wrestling team finished third in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by UW-Eau Claire Saturday. Three Warhawks claimed gold at the championship including four-time champion Dominik Mallinder (Roselle, Ill./Lake Park). 

Mallinder claimed his fourth WIAC title but first at 149 pounds - the previous three came in the 133-pound bracket. The title bout was one of the most thrilling on the day as Mallinder registered a last-second takedown for the victory. The call immediately went to replay and the takedown stood for gold. With the championship, Mallinder became just the second Warhawk in program history to secure a conference title all four years (Tim Carmin, heavyweight, 1979-82). 

Justin Fortugno (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) reached the pinnacle at the league championship for the first time in his career. After finishing second two years ago and third as a freshman, Fortugno put together a phenomenal championship with a pair of major decisions and two falls - including a pin in the title bout - for his first 141-pound championship. 

The Warhawks' third gold of the day came at 157 pounds. Reaching the championship for the second straight season, Luke Swan (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) opened with a technical fall and a major decision before advancing to the title bout in sudden victory. He secured the championship by 10-4 decision. 

Brayden Peet (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) claimed silver at 165 pounds for the second consecutive season while RJ Samuels (Darien, Ill./Downers Grove South) picked up his first medal at the conference championships with bronze at 184. Jax Lipnitz (St. Ignace, Mich./LaSalle) (184), Callen Kirchner (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Schaumburg) (165) and Jordan Rasof (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) (133) both finished fourth while Brady Phelps (Schaumburg, Ill./Schaumburg) (125) claimed fifth. Caden Kirchner (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Schaumburg) (174) and Jordan Lewis (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove North) (285) wrapped up the podiums with sixth place finishes.
