Swim and Dive Teams Top UW-Oshkosh

The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's and women's swimming and diving teams started Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference competition Saturday afternoon with dual victories at UW-Oshkosh.
 
The Warhawk women posted a 168-113 win, while the men recorded a 140-112 triumph.
 
Hunter Hayberger (Sandusky, Ohio/Sandusky) and Donny Gramer (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) led the men, winning multiple individual events.
 
Hayberger touched the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.67 and the 500-yard freestyle in 5:07.87. Gramer took the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:02.56 and claimed the 100-yard freestyle in 49.81 seconds.
 
Other individual event winners included Zach Miller (Saukville, Wis./Port Washington) and Jalen Stimes (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) in the 100- and 200-yard backstroke, respectively. Miller completed the 100 in 57.18 seconds, and Stimes posted a 2:09.40 in the 200. Tyler Popke (Sun Prairie, Wis./Sun Prairie) won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:24.77.
 
UW-Whitewater swept the relays, taking the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:31.16 with the combination of Miller, Anthony Mrozowski (Northbrook, Ill./Glenbrook North), Hayberger and Gramer. The team also placed first in the 200-yard medley relay with Miller, Popke, Ethan Coons (Neenah, Wis./Neenah) and Gramer, who finished with a 1:41.85.
 
Gianna Gnewuch (Madison, Wis./Verona Area) and Abby Thompson (De Pere, Wis./De Pere) starred for the women, winning a combined five events.
 
Gnewuch took the 200-yard backstroke in 2:15.87, the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:12.29 and the 200-yard individual medley in 2:21.60. Thompson swept the butterfly events, posting a 1:06.05 in the 100 and a 2:24.13 in the 200.
 
Other first-place finishers included Emily Connell (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower) in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.87), Anna Yeazel (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:38.09), Morgan Nabors (Spring Green, Wis./River Valley) in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.87) and Brianna Zimdars (Whitewater, Wis./Whitewater) in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:48.34).
 
The Warhawks took the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:46.01 thanks to the group of Amanda Harper (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly), Makenna Clark (Joliet, Ill./Joliet West), Nabors and Ciara Hynes (Eureka, Mo./Eureka). The combination of Gnewuch, Yeazel, Nabors and Hynes won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:56.92.
 
UW-Whitewater hosts UW-La Crosse for a dual next Saturday, Nov. 13, at 1 p.m. inside the Williams Center.
